This really excites me. It is all about finding a way to showcase the learning that is going on all the time, so that the parents and the children can reflect on it and practitioners and children can plan to extend that learning. I know that some practitioners use photographs and document ‘learning stories’ for this purpose. I have also heard of nurseries using video footage of the children playing and making it accessible for the children to watch whenever they like. One nursery even put the mornings photographs on a powerpoint presentation and had the slide show running as the parents came to get the children, so that the parents and children could talk about the morning and the learning that had gone on together.

Learning journey portfolios are used by most settings now and are great for both showcasing learning, but also keeping track of progress and for planning. They are great to share with parents too – ours are taken home by parents every school holiday for them to look at with the children – they all love them!
